Nick Burley, your instructor for all courses at the bricklaying center Your instructor is Nick Burley.

Nick has been a bricklayer for 18 years. He has a City and Guilds Advanced Craft in Brickwork and associated studies.

He has a strong interest in teaching others the skills that he has learned over the years.




Course Content Includes

  • How to work safely, good working practices, and the importance of health and safety.
  • Mixing and gauging bricklaying mortars.
  • An explanation of the different bricklaying tools.
  • The various types of bricks and their uses.
  • Trowel techniques.
  • How to set out and load out bricks.
  • Laying bricks that are level , plumb and to the correct gauge.
  • Practical exercises include building a stack of bricks, a pillar, a corner in single and double skin, cavity walling using line and pins, a barbecue / planter.
